Crazy Crystals

Aim: To learn about a saturated solution and how to make crystals.

Definition of solution
A liquid mixture, when something is dissolved into a liquid.
(Eg; Sugar, salt and borax and water.)

Definition of saturated
Having or holding as much as can be absorbed of something.
(when no more sugar, salt and borax can be dissolved into the water)

Borax's Crystals  













Materials

1: Plastic cup
2: Plastic spoon
3: 3 pipe cleaners
4: 1 Peg
5: 1/2 cup of warm water
6: 4 table spoons of borax

Process

Step 1: As a group we went up to the teachers are got 3 pipe cleaner, a peg, a cup with warm water and borax. We also got a plastic spoon to mix's the ingredients together.
Step 2: My teammate twisted the 3 pipe cleaners into a star, then put a peg on one color. 
Step 3: Then we all had a turn mixing the borax's into the warm water, and making shaw it was saturated.
Step 4: After mixing the ingredients together I got a piece of paper and write our names and the types of crystals. 
Step 5: Then we put the plastic cup with the ingredients on the paper, and we then put it on a red tray.

Sugar Crystals













Materials

1: Plastic cup
2: Plastic spoon
3: 1 pipe cleaner
4: 1 peg 
5: 1/2 cup of warm water
6: 7 tablespoons of sugar

Process

Step 1: As a group we went up to the teachers are got 1 pipe cleaner, a peg, a cup with warm water and sugar. We also got a plastic spoon to mixed the ingredients together.
Step 2: Then we all had a turn mixing the sugar into the warm water, and making shaw it was saturated.
Step 3: After mixing the ingredients together, we wrote sugar crystals on the plastic cup.
Step 4: Then we put the plastic cup with the ingredients on the paper, and we then put it on a red tray.

Salt Crystals










Materials

1: Plastic cup
2: Plastic spoon
3: 1 pipe cleaner
4: 1 Peg  
5: 1/2 cup of warm water

What crystals worked out best and why?
The borax's crystals were the best, because the pipe cleaner star formed more crystals on the bottom half than what the salt or sugar one did.
