Creative Writing

The rocky hill looks amazingly beautiful under the blue sky. The rocky hill caves over the beautiful bright blue ocean. The bushes looking bright green while there are boats floating in the blue sea. As I'm sitting on the wharf I can see a big white boat coming in from a distance. 

I'm Rebecca and I'm living on a boat with my best friend Alissa, we have a puppy called Lover, we called her lover because she will show love to people and will help people in need. We live in the ocean near shore listening to the big waves crashing at night while sleeping. Last night we heard footsteps and screaming. Early hours in the morning we woke up and started searching...  

Alissa and I were really frightened so we went to the balcony of the boat to see what the footsteps were that we heard. Alissa started walking ahead of me and saw someone in black run in silent to the back balcony if the boat. So I followed Alissa to the back of the boat and we were in complete silents watching the person in black do something that was unknown. 

It was early hours of the morning and we were still spying on the person in black do something unknown. Minutes later we noticed what the man was doing, the man was removed parts from our boat. As the man we removing parts from the boat it started sinking. But Alissa and I managed to jump into the water and swim to shore well the man in black was sinking with the boat because the man couldn't swim.

A subject I would like to do that HHS that isn't offered...

Today I get the opportunity to create a blog-post on a subject I would like to do that Hornby High School doesn't offer. The subject I would like to do that Hornby High School doesn't offer is Swimming. 

Reasons why I choose swimming:

When I was young I done swimming as a sport, I completed in competitions and practiced so much. When I started becoming older I grow out of swimming I start growing into netball. I would like to get back into doing swimming at school so it would be amazing to do swimming as a subject. 

If  you do swimming it can become a career in the Olympics Sports

     

Dream Holiday

Today my class got the opportunity to create a blog-post about a dream holiday. Since I was a little kid I've wanted to go to Hawaii. In Hawaii you can do heaps of different things, something I really want to do is a snorkeling cruise: Swim with the turtles and dolphins. 

What a researched about snorkeling cruise: Swim with the turtles and dolphins...
You learn about how to snorkel and the best amazing spots to check out. You also learn how to approach the sea animals and the technique to swim with the sea animals. After the introduction you put on the snorkeling gear, dive in ready to snorkel around the beautiful reef and amazing sea animals. 

  

I really hope one day I can take an adventure to Hawaii.

I hope your dream holiday is Hawaii as well and also really want to do the snorkeling cruise: Swim with the turtles and dolphins. 

   

Pine-cone Creation

Today we started a new Hurumanu doing things about art. We did a pine-cone creation challenge and I did an Christmas tree seen we are so close to Christmas time.

International Netball Competition

In the school holidays I competed in a international netball competition that was held at Hagley Park in town. Everybody played on Saturday, Monday and Tuesday. The teams had to be there by 8-8:30am and the teams could leave after there last game of the day. The guests could arrive anywhere after 9am and leave whenever than wanted as well. 

I played in a team that knew anybody because we were formed 24 hours before the whole tournament started. In my team I had Jane, Holly, Hannah, Eve, Jess, Ngakiha, Nyra and myself. My team was called the NZ All-sorts that wore Australian Five Rivers netball dressing for the competition. 

Everyday was played 3 games and every game was played for 40 minutes in quarters. On Saturday we played Motivations,Revelation and Marian. On Monday we played Motivations, The Malaysians team and Merlins. On Tuesday we played The Australian team, The Malaysians team and Merlins. We had some loses and some wins. We placed 5th in our sections for this tournament.

On Tuesday after playing three games was presentations and my whole team got participation awards. 

Cooking Pizza

Today in cooking technology we made pizza in a group of 4 and in my group I had Hope, Addyson, Megan and myself. All my group had different toppings and liked different toppings as well. I had a tomato & herb base, tomato base sauce, cheese, ham, salami, mushroom, tomato, some mixed herbs and BBQ sauce. After we made our pizza we cooked it for about 10 minutes or until all ingredients are cooking perfect. Once the pizza was cooked we took it out of the oven, we put it on a small plate and we all ate it up into our tummy's. After eating the pizza we did the dishes and packed our space up completely. Then we made a blog post about today's session on making pizza. 

P:E Hurumanu

Today in P:E Hurumanu we played heaps of different games and my favorite one was bench ball with a twist which was adding netball into playing it which was really fun.

I have a negative influence on the team.  The teacher has reminded me to get involved. I get into arguments, and sometimes use nasty words. I sometimes cheat.	I sometimes make a contribution to the team goal.  I sometimes need the teacher or my team mates to remind me to join in or try harder.   I try to use positive words and actions to encourage my team, but I find it hard.	I always make a contribution to the team goal. I include myself in the team activity, and I include others.  I sometimes use positive words and actions to encourage my team.	I am a leader in making a contribution to the team goal.  I make sure I include everyone in what’s going on.  I am always encouraging, and my positive words and actions lift my team’s performance.

Blog Reflection

I give myself this rating because I was a leader in contributing to my team, I made sure that everyone we included, I was always always positive words and encouraging my team while playing bench ball.

Something challenging was when nobody was passing me the ball even if I was open without anyone guarding me.

I overcame that challenge by always having myself open without a guard, saying the person's name who had the ball and hoping they would pass it to me. 

What I want Miss Birtch to know about me...

Today 7/8 Al are having there first lesson with Miss Birtch teaching them. I'm really excited to have Miss Birtch teaching me as I've never worked with her before and also want to get to know her.

1) I really love playing sports and getting involved with things that are to do with being active.

2) My 3 favorite foods are butter chicken, tacos and ice cream. I could eat these foods everyday if I wanted but there not the healthier foods on the planet.

3) I have an amazing load of family and friends that I couldn't live without.

4) I love animals and I have a dog named Boof and a cat named Bubbles. These animals are so amazing and have a loving family that cares about them so much. 

5) My all time favorite colour is blue and my less favorite colour is pink. I love the shades black, white and grey. 

6) My favorite movie/season right now is called Riverdale and my favorite TV show is Shortland Street.

7) My favorite thing to do at school is hanging with friends but my favorite subject is P:E.

8) The things I love doing in my spare time is practicing netball, watching Netflix, hanging with friends, etc.

9) My perfect night would be watching a movie/season while eating my favorite foods.

Creating a song

Today in Music Hurumanu I continued creating my song lyrics about something I love doing which is playing netball. My song has got a very bouncy beat to it and also very catchy.

Ella West Visit

Ella West Visit

Yesterday we were lucky enough to have a famous author come into our school and chat with us year 7&8's. She's the author of 'Night Vision' and 'Rain Fall' which are two books my class was able to read. 

She lives two life's, which means two different names. Her real name is Karen Trebilcock and her author name is Ella West. Her first life is being around family and also being a journalist for South Land Times and Farming Magazines. Her second life is being an author. Something really funny is that her Mum always thinks that she's the mother in all her books but really  she's not. She never gets distracted when writing her books which is pretty impressive.

Ella West was talking to us about how she got the ideas and how she created the books 'Night Vision' and 'Rain Fall'. She had continuous ideas for 'Night Vision' but her main idea was putting a murder in. She also watched a documentary about Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP) and that's also when she decided to write 'Night Vision'. 'Night Vision' is about a girl named Viola who has a genetic condition called Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP). This genetic condition stops you from going into or near sunlight, if you go into or near sunlight you can get skin caner and die. She had continuous ideas for 'Rain Fall' but her main idea was basing it on coal mining. There were two main characters called Annie and Jake. The two main animals were horses called Tassie and Blue. It's also about murder and people losing their jobs. 

Night Vision has won two awards called Young Adult LIANZA Award and New Zealand Children's Choice Award. Which means 'Night Vision' is a really amazing book to read. Night Vision has also been translated into Italian. Night Vision has had somebody steal the first cover.

Ella West had written her first ever book but it didn't get published due to not being good enough. She would constantly take the book to her publisher but they would always tell her to edit it. 

Ella West is currently writing a book called 'Sound of my heart' which is based on a girl running marathons but she never comes first but always beats her time records.

Her books get published in New Zealand and Australia. Her name never gets on the "Best New-Zealander author because her books get published in both countries. 

Ella West tries writing 1000 words per day and tries writing a maximum of 50,000 words per book.
