Forgery

THE FEET CAN MEASURE THE HEIGHT:

The bones of the feet can tell a lot about a person. What do feet reveal about a person's height? Forensic anthropologists team up with law enforcers to help solve crimes.
Bones of the feet can reveal an interesting fact about an individual. Let's combine math with forensics to see how.

Aim:  To use forensic science techniques to measure the height of a criminal.

Material:
  1. A wall
  2. A ruler
  3. A computer or laptop
  4. Fingers or nails
  5. A person
Steps:
  1. As a group we went got a meter ruler and measure our height and feet.
  2. Then we measured each others height and my friend Addyson was the tallest, I was the second tallest and my friend Hope was the smallest.
  3. Then after we measured each others height we started measuring each others foot. My foot was the biggest, my friend Hope's was the second biggest and my friend Addyson had the smallest.
  4. Then we recorded the results we got from measuring our height and feet.

Findings:

Name
Foot  (cm)
Height (cm)
Shontelle23.7 cm1.58 cm
Addyson 21.3 cm 160 cm
Hope 23.5 cm 1.57 cm

Divide the length of each person's foot by his/her height. Then multiply it by 100.

23.7 ÷ 1.58 = 15   - Multiply by 100/1500

21.3 ÷ 160 = 13   - Multiply by 100/1300

23.5 ÷ 1.57 = 14   - Multiply by 100/1400

Forensics

1. What is the definition of forensic science?
The application of scientific methods and techniques to matters under investigation by a court of law.

3. Name 5 jobs that would use forensics to investigate crime
  • FBI
  • The police
  • Medical Examiner
  • Crime scene investigator
  • Crime laboratory analyst

Finger prints

Aim: To look at the different types of fingerprints.

Material:
  1. Finger
  2. Ink/Ink pad
  3. Magnifying glass
  4. Balloon

Steps
  1. The teacher gave my group a balloon.
  2. Then we all went up and inked our thumb/finger.
  3. Then remove the ink from our thumb/finger the the balloon.
  4. Then you wait for the ink to dry.
  5.  Then you blow up the balloon.
  6.  Then you check to see what pattern your thump/finger is (Arch, Loop or Whorl.)

Recording:
Name
Fingerprint 1 ( Thumb)
Fingerprint 2 (finger)
ShontelleLoopLoop
AddysonWhorl Loop
Hope LoopLoop

Summary of findings:
Our thumb:  My friend Addyson had a whorl on her thumb but me and my friend Hope had a loop on our thumb.

Our fingers: My friends Addyson and Hope had a loop on their finger and I also had a loop on my finger.

Hidden fingerprints:

Aim: To learn how to lift hidden fingerprints from an object.

1. Lifting and Gathering fingerprints.

Equipment:
  1. Table
  2. Plastic paper file
  3. Baby powder/Coca powder
  4.  Brush
  5. Tape
  6. Fingers
  7. I-pad
Method:

  1. As a group we went up front a got some baby powder.
  2. Then the teacher gave us a plastic paper file.
  3. Well the plastic paper file was in our hands, we made fingerprints.
  4. Then we used baby powder and then brushed it around with a brush.
  5.  As we were brushing baby powder around on the plastic paper file, we found the hidden fingerprints.
  6. Then we got a piece of tape and then put it on the fingerprints that became exposed.
  7. After all that we took 2 photos.
