Day Tramp 1

  1. Harry Ell
  • Who: Harry Ell was a Christchurch city councillor and a New Zealand member of the parliament  
  • What: Harry Ell is famous for his conservation work around the port hills. Harry Ell also built 4 rest houses.

   2. Leave no trace
  • What: Leave no trace means keeping and caring for the environment.
  • How: Don’t leave rubbish floating around, only leave footprints on the ground.
The 7 principles - Leave no trace
  • Plan ahead and prepare.
  • Travel and camp on durable surfaces.
  • Dispose of waste properly.
  • Leave what you find.
  • Minimize campfire impacts (be careful with fire).
  • Respect wildlife.
  • Be considerate of other visitors.

Benne/Hat
Wool or polyester thermals/shirt  
Jersey

Tights/tracksuit pants

  • Onion: You are wearing multiple layers of clothing top and bottom.
  • Best materials: Wool, polyesters and warm

  • Personal needs: Lunch, Drink bottle and Personal Medication  
  • Group needs: Shelter, First Aid, Phones and Bag

Tracks :
  1. Harry Ell Walkway - 4km - 2 hours
  2. Mitchells Track - 1km - 30minutes
  3. Cedric Track - 1.3km - 35minutes
  4. Latters Spur Track  - 2km - 1 hour
Total: 8.3km - 4hr 5min


Height Change :
  1. Carpark: 290 metres
  2. Sugar Loaf: 480 metres
Height Change Total: 190 metres
