Chromatography Experiment

Aim: To separate to pigments from a felt.

Hypothesis: I think the pigments from my pink felt will separate. I think the pigments from my black felt will separate.

Equipment:
  1. 250ml beaker
  2. A strip of paper
  3. A felt
  4. Water

Method:
  1. Add 50ml of water to the beaker
  2. Get a strip of paper
  3. Measure 2 fingers of yours then put a dot with your felt
  4. Place the paper in the water
  5. 5 minutes later remove the paper from the water, lay it on a hard surface
Results:
I choice pink for my first try of this experiment. My color stretched and only showed 1 pigment which was pink. Miss Abernethy my science teacher choice black for my second try for this experiment. My color stretched and showed orange, blue, purple band of course black.

Discussion:
My results are saying that pink only has 1 pigment and that black has 3 pigments. Next time we do chromatography I'm going to try all different colors instead of just two.

Conclusion:
The experiment worked as it told me the different pigments in colors. My hypothesis for pink and black was correct as there did separate.
