Science Hurumanu

Aim: To look at the causes of climate change and how to prevent it.

What is our greatest threat in thousands of years?
Climate change is going to affect us and our globe. Climate change has become completely dangerous to us and our globe.

How do we see climate change affecting the globe?
  1. Our transportation is affecting our globe because carbon monoxide is entering our air and it's creating pollution.
  2. With our temperature rising the ice is melting which means our water levels are rising too and the little islands are becoming flooded which also means disappearing.
  3. Climate change is affecting the globe because there is heaps of pollution in our oceans and lands.
  4. Storms are also affecting our globe because it's damaging us and our transportation. Storms are becoming much more dangerous and a threat to us and our transportation.

What is needed to change history?
We can't change the past but can change the future. We need to stop putting pollution and gases into our atmosphere. We need to start emergency action.
Is climate change a man made disaster?
Climate change is a man made disaster because we are doing the harm and the damage. Climate change is also a man made disaster because of all the fossil fuels polluting our air.
Dramatic action must be made in the next __ years to change it?
10 years
Why is our climate changing?
Climate is changing because of the amount of fossil fuels we use and because the temperatures are rising.
What is causing the warming trend of the climate?
Carbon dioxide is forming a blanket so heat from the sun goes through and hits us, normally it would bounce back up but it can’t because the blanket is trapping it from going back to the sun. The heat will bounce to the dioxide blanket then back to earth’s atmosphere and just repeats over and over.
What is the main problem?
Climate change. Climate change means there’s heaps of pollution and different gases flowing around in the air. Also the ice is melting which means water levels are rising too, plus that also means not going to be small islands or Antarctica left.
What are examples of these?
Some animals are not surviving or are becoming extinct because of the temperatures. Antarctica is melting 3x more than it was 25 years ago, also Greenland is melting 5x more than 25 years ago.
Burning fossil fuels releases what gas?
Carbon and nitrogen
How much hotter now is our world?
The globe is 1 degrees Celsius hotter than usual
What do we call this global warming?

How is this affecting creatures / animals like bats?
Climate change is causing about 8% of animals to go extinct. Also our animals are starting to die because they aren't adapting to the rise of temperature.
What percentage of species are near extinction?
Around the world's there's about 99.9% of animals near extinction.
How could this effect the world ecosystems?
In an  ecosystems, each organisms has it's role and purpose.

When we introduce external factors such as too much carbon dioxide or methane, it destroys the balance of the ecosystem which in turn affects those who live in it. The result is globalwarming, water shortage, extinction of species

What global change was seen and recording breaking last year?

How is climate change affecting our weather systems?
1.
2.
3.

What is another effect of climate change?

What will happen if the ice melts in Antarctica and the Arctic?
23%
How does this affect people?

What other things affect oceans change?

What does too much heat do to the coral?
`

Why did some industries not want to stop burning fossil fuels?
