THE FEET CAN MEASURE THE HEIGHT:
The bones of the feet can tell a lot about a person. What do feet reveal about a person's height? Forensic anthropologists team up with law enforcers to help solve crimes.
Bones of the feet can reveal an interesting fact about an individual. Let's combine math with forensics to see how.
Aim: To use forensic science techniques to measure the height of a criminal.
- A wall
- A ruler
- A computer or laptop
- Fingers or nails
- A person
- As a group we went got a meter ruler and measure our height and feet.
- Then we measured each others height and my friend Addyson was the tallest, I was the second tallest and my friend Hope was the smallest.
- Then after we measured each others height we started measuring each others foot. My foot was the biggest, my friend Hope's was the second biggest and my friend Addyson had the smallest.
- Then we recorded the results we got from measuring our height and feet.
Findings:
Name | Foot (cm) | Height (cm) |
Shontelle | 23.7 cm | 1.58 cm |
Addyson | 21.3 cm | 160 cm |
Hope | 23.5 cm | 1.57 cm |
Divide the length of each person's foot by his/her height. Then multiply it by 100.
23.7 ÷ 1.58 = 15 - Multiply by 100/1500
21.3 ÷ 160 = 13 - Multiply by 100/1300
23.5 ÷ 1.57 = 14 - Multiply by 100/1400
