Catching the sun movie

Materials:

1. Four cups 
2. One large cup 
3. Water
4. Tin foil
5. 2 sheets of white paper
6. 1  sheet of black paper
7. Thermometer
8. One heat lamp

Steps

1. First we got into groups of 4-5 and then got all the materials to start our experiment.
2. Then we filled the cups with water and then placed the cups on a piece of white paper, black paper or tin foil. For a small cup that sits on a piece of white paper we placed a larger cup over the top. 
3. After preparing the experiment, we turned on a heat lamp to pretend as sun. 
4. After 40 minutes we used a thermometer to see the temperature of each cup. After recording the results we turned the heat lamp off.  
5. We waited 15 minutes before recording the next lot.
6. 15 minutes later we recorded them again and some went up and down.
7. We waited 15 minutes before recording the last lots.
8. 15 later we recorded them again and some went up and down.

Findings:

Before we started all the water in the cups were at 8 degrees. Then 40 minutes later we used a thermometer to see the temperatures of the water, which were 12, 11, 22 and 20. Then 15 minutes later we tested them again and got 13, 13, 20, 19. Then another 15 minutes later we tested them again and got 14, 14, 19 and 16. 

Drama Hurumanu

This week on Tuesday we learnt about puberty and did more on our slam poetry. First we learnt about puberty and how it can effect peoples emotions. Secondly we watched three videos about coral speaking and slam poetry.

After watching the videos we got into our groups to practice our slam poetry's. We practiced for about 10-20 minutes before going on stage and preforming in front of the whole class. While we preformed we made a few mistake but we showed resilience by not giving up.

Drama Change and Challenge

This week on Tuesday we had our Drama Hurumanu and create some slam poetry. For this activity we worked in group of 3 or 4, I worked in a group of 4 with Myself, Addyson, Hope and Evelyn. First we made our own personal slam poem's and then secondly we made a group presentable slam poem.

Annoying, Clumsy, Netball lover

I am a daughter to my mother and father, I am sister to my siblings, I am an aunt to my niece and nephews.

I love netball and I love hanging with family and friends

AIM: TO LOOK AT THE WATER CYCLE AND HOW CLIMATE CHANGE IS AFFECTING IT.

                     Definition:

                 

                   Scientific words:

• Evaporation. When water is heated by radiant energy it turns into water vapor.
• Transpiration. Evaporation from plants.
• Condensation. When water vapor cools, molecules join together and form clouds.
• Precipitation. When clouds get heavy the waters falls as rain, sleet, hail, or snow.
• Acidification: the action or process of making or becoming acidic.

                   We will be conducting an experiment that looks at the different ways                                           that climate change is affecting the water cycle.

               Conclusion:

             

           

First we started with precipitation and worked our way around that word. Precipitation is a scientific word for rain, which means it's connected to storms and hurricanes because that forms heavy and hard rain. On the right in the middle of storms and hurricanes is flooding, flooding can happen due to bad weather. On the right bottom corner of flooding is oceans, oceans can cause flooding due to earthquakes. Below oceans is evaporation, when the sun is really hot it can evaporate the salt from the oceans. On the left bottom corner of evaporation is freshwater, cause when oceans are evaporated the salt disappears which means it becomes freshwater. Below freshwater is water vapour, the reason why these two are connected is because water vapour is basically clean fresh water. Back to evaporation and on the right bottom corner is condensation, when something is evaporated it can turn into condensation. Below condensation is carbon dioxide, cause when you breathe out your breathing out carbon dioxide which has moisture, which is condensation.

             Water cycle words:

1. Precipitation: It's a scientific word for (rain). When the water is evaporated into the clouds, it comes out as rain.  
2. Hurricanes: Hurricanes happened in warm winds and weather, then travels through until it dies out.  
3. Storms: Storms are a threat because there damage and destroy our lands. Without storms our nations wouldn't have come together to help one another. 
4. Evaporation: Evaporation is when the sun get's a hold of the water and it starts evaporating out. It get's in our clouds and comes out as rain. 
5. Carbon Dioxide: When you breathe out, your breathing out carbon dioxide. So you breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide.
6. Water: Water helps us to survive. We use water to swim, drink and etc. 
7. Oceans: Oceans are a place for our sea creatures to live. But also without oceans of waterways you probably couldn't live.
8. Water vapor: Water vapor is a gaseous form. It's a state of hydrosphere. Water vapor can be produced from evaporation or boiling of liquid water and from ice. Water vapor is invisible.    
9.             Freshwater: Freshwater is naturally water that isn't sea or brackish                 water. Fresh water include ice sheets, ice caps, glaciers, icebergs,                 bogs, ponds, lakes, rivers, streams, and even underground water called                                                                 groundwater. 
10. Flooding: It's apart of climate change. Cause of the temperatures rising the ice is melting which means our water levels are rising too.

ACIDIFICATION: HOW DOES CLIMATE CHANGE CONTRIBUTE TO THE ACIDIFICATION OF OUR OCEANS?

Ocean acidification is a ongoing decrease of pH of the Earth's oceans, caused by carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Seawater is sightly basic and the ocean acidification involves towards pH-neutral conditions rather than a transition to acidic condition.

ICE CAP MELT: HOW DOES ICE CAP MELT AFFECT CLIMATE CHANGE?

The melting of polar ice caps is caused by the rising increase of our global temperatures. The melting of polar ice caps can have serious consequences for all the living organisms on Earth. As the melting of polar ice caps the sea levels are rising and becoming less saline.

How does ice cap melting affect climate change?

With the global temperatures rising it's preventing polar ice caps to melting, which is cause sea levels to rise.

Drama Changes and Challenges

In drama this week we focused on learning how to make puppets and how to present something we created. For this activity we worked in groups of 3 or 4 to create a puppet show to represent healthy food. In my group was Myself, Addyson and Hope who are my best friends. But first we did a poster on healthy food that connects with all the 4 aspects of Hauora.

For my puppet I did Sponge-bob Square Pants. I wanted to do a famous nickelodeon star and Sponge-bob Square Pants is a famous nickelodeon star. My friends Addyson and Hope also did somebody from the show Sponge-bob Square Pants, Addyson did Sponge-bob Square Pants and Hope did Patrick.

Here's an idea about what our puppet show is going to be:

First we sing the theme song, then Addyson's Sponge-bob asks Hopes Patrick to a friends date at the Krusty Krab, then Addyson's Sponge-bob orders three kelp salads when my sponge-bob turns up, then we start talking about healthy food that relates to all 4 aspects of Hauroa and then at the end of our puppet show we sing the song fun. 

When we did the poster about the 4 aspects of Hauora, we said some thoughts like always eating healthy food and I'll cook for my family and friends.

• Taha Hinengaro is your mental and emotional well being to help with eating, if your sad you can eat what makes you feel happy but if your happy you can start eating healthy.

• Taha Wairua is your spiritual well being to help with eating, you can start eating healthy to keep your body in good form.

Charles-worth Reserve

Charles-worth Reserve:

Aim: To learn how to plant and different ways to plant, also to learn how to listen to instructions.

On Wednesday at 9:30am we went on a school trip to Charles-worth reserve, Charles-worth reserve is a place that plants only native. On this trip we had three classes that were in a group called Tāne Māhuta. Tāne Māhuta was all about planting and picking up rubbish.

When we got to Charles-worth reserve, first we had some morning tea and had a little play around. Secondly we walked 5 mins in land to where we were going to plants our natives. For planting we were in group of 3 or 4. Per group was one shovel and a pair of gloves (If you wanted them). Then we started planting our natives and then we fixed up holes in the ground that were made by us. Thirdly we moved to another spot and started planting there and then fixed up holes in the ground that were made by us. We planted over 200 natives and also we found heaps of crab crawling around.

Fourthly after planting over 200 natives we walked back to where we started, we had some lunch and also had a play around. Fifthly we walked back to the bus and vans, we went to Mitre 10 Mega to pick up rubbish in around the bush behind the store. Then after going to Mitre 10 Mega to pick up rubbish, we walked back to the bus and van, we drove back to school and then went home.
